What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Both CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are members of the chemical family called cannabinoids, and they are the two most common chemical compounds found in the Cannabis plant. THC produces psychoactive effects by binding to the naturally occurring CB-1 receptors in the central nervous system. CBD binds to CB-2 receptors in cell and body tissues outside of the central nervous system and, as a result, does not produce intoxicating effects.
